Bequia
To be back again

Twenty years ago we visited Bequia spending almost a month exploring its beaches, roads, food and island life. Its held so many great memories for us, including visits from Isaiah and Dorise as well as mom and Justin. Justin returned with Meg years later for a honeymoon at moon hole. We now have returned with Rowan and Theo and spent 10 glorious days. We met Lisboa, a lovely family from Nova Scotia, Rowan and Theo got their bubbles scuba certificate and we walked out to moon hole- the artist community with homes built from stone into the cliffs edge. A visit to the whaling museum was a highlight. We learned Bequia is grandfathered in by the international whaling association to catch 4 humpback whales a year, they caught one last year. Whalers use 27ft open boats and traditional means of spearing and harpooning the whale. The season starts in Feb and ends in April. Noah met the islands famous whaler as a student aboard Ocean Classrooms Spirit of Massachusetts in high school. Its a tradition thats built into the foundation of Bequia’s identity. We loved our visit and onwards we go.
